The Loss of a Friend – Roberto Echeverria

9 07 2010

Joint Council regrets to announce the death of former Joint Council Guatemala Representative Roberto Echeverria as the result of an automobile accident in Guatemala. At only 38, Roberto’s sudden death is a tragedy for his wife and three young children.

Roberto was a successful career defense attorney in Guatemala City and also served as an attorney for FTIA. Subsequent to his work in adoption, Roberto became Joint Council’s first representative outside the U.S. and provided his serves pro bono to Joint Council for two-years.

Roberto was a strong advocate for children, a close advisor to Joint Council, a loving father and husband and my personal friend. His death is a great loss to our collective mission, to Guatemala and most significantly to his family.

On behalf of Joint Council, our Board of Directors and our Member organizations, I extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Roberto Echeverria.

Sincerely,

Tom DiFilipo

Mr. Echeverria was a wonderful man. His hard work helped our family get through a very difficult adoption process. A true advocate for the children of Guatemala.

He will be missed..Frank
